About my blog

I am Sunny, an Ajumma from South Korea,

currently living in Canada.

I have been living here since 2015 as an immigrant.

Life as an immigrant isn't easy, sometimes it is frustrating and upsetting. I’ve experienced a lot of culture shock with Canadian culture, food, and ways of thinking.

However, I feel lucky and grateful that we are able to enjoy K-pop, K-dramas, movies and news with new technology (such as: YouTube, Netflix, etc.)

Looking back on the time I spent in England as a student (22 years ago), it was impossible to enjoy those cultural benefits (문화적 혜택).

We were only able to rent videos from Korea Town near London, and listened to DVDs that friends sent.

But now in 2020, everybody knows BTS and their music and Zzapaguri and Parasite.

My son has benefited a lot

from the success of these things here in Canada.

Based on my experience living in North America,

I realized foreigners have a lot of misunderstandings about

our K-culture:  food, Korean history, dramas, movies,

k-pop, manners, Korean language usage, etc.

Through my blog,

I would like to help them enjoy and understand K-culture

more widely, accurately and in more diversity way.

I also want to hear and share your experiences and feelings about our K-culture.

I would like to connect with you with more Q & A, based on a topic.

Have you tried "Jja-jang-myeon"? Jja-jang-myeon Have you heard "Steak Ramdon (called Jjapaguri)" from the K-movie, "PARASITE"??? (Here in North America, they might heard as black bean paste noodles, but slightly different to express.) It is a very popular Korean menu. In my teenage years, we ate Jjajangmyeon on special days such as graduation days, birthdays etc. I remember that I also had it with my parents after my elementary school graduation ceremony. Due to its popularity, one Korean ramen company created instant jjajangmyeon, named "Jjapagetti".  Later, the menu "Jjapaguri" from Parasite was introduced. (I don't know who originally created this menu.) I also got to know it from the movie. In Korea, another ramen (Neoguri) is also super famous of its chewy noodles.  (as you can see the picture). Jjapaguri= Jjapagetti + Neoguri + Beef stake (Black bean sauce is from Jjapagetti,  not Neoguri) From Parasite According to the direct...
